Hardware & RF Design
Secure systems are only as strong as the hardware they run on. Glenburn designs electronic products end to end — from schematic and PCB through RF and firmware to a deployable, field-ready unit — with security designed in from the first board revision rather than bolted on later.
Our hardware work is tightly coupled to our smartcard, embedded and cryptography practices, so we deliver complete devices rather than just boards: readers that talk to our card operating systems, terminals that run our field applications, and tokens that carry our cryptographic processes.
What we design
- Handheld field terminals — low-cost units with built-in dual-slot smartcard readers, GPRS/cellular modems and optional portable printers, used for micro-finance and agency-banking field operations.
- Smartcard readers & interfaces — contact and secure-access-module (SAM) reader hardware, including multi-reader arrays driven by our SAM Server.
- Authentication tokens — offline pocket challenge/response generators and USB security tokens for two-factor authentication.
- Self-service & payment hardware — single-source, x86-based ATM units engineered for tamper-resistance, portability and low total cost of ownership.
- Secure microcontroller platforms — board and firmware co-design around secure microcontrollers such as the Infineon family, with EEPROM file-system support.
RF & connectivity
Our devices are built to work where connectivity is intermittent. We integrate cellular (GPRS) and Wi-Fi radios, design for secure VPN and dedicated-link options, and build in local data storage with delayed batch synchronisation for areas of poor coverage.
Security-first, by design
Because we also build the card operating systems, key-management and server-side security these devices talk to, hardware and security are designed together. SAM cards can be integrated for scheme-key storage, transactions can be cryptographically signed on-device, and tamper-resistance is a hardware requirement, not an afterthought.
